Pure Via sweeteners (Review & Giveaway)

I didn't start drinking coffee until my working years. I got through university by drinking Coke. But now that I'm a parent, I don't know how I could live without coffee. Once I moved in with Chris, I started using brown sugar in my coffee, and recently I heard of an even better way to sweeten my brew.

Pure Via is an all natural, zero calorie sweetener derived from stevia, a plant native to South America. Its main sweetening ingredient is Reb A, a high-purity extract of the sweetest part of the stevia plant. As a replacement for sugar in beverages, cooking and baking, Pure Via can help to reduce overall calories consumed without sacrificing great taste. Pure Via is a natural alternative to sugar and can be enjoyed by anyone who wants the indulgent taste of sugar without all the calories.

It looks just like sugar, but fizzes a little bit before stirred in. You hardly have to use any to achieve the same sweetness as two spoonfuls of sugar. I'm hooked!

We recently tried one the recipes sent with samples of Pure Via (the product recently became available in Canada). I don't usually like French Toast, but this was delicious!

French Toast with Berry Lemon Sauce

INGREDIENTS

Sauce

1 Tbsp. (15 mL) butter
4 packets of Pure Via Turbinado Raw Cane Sugar and Stevia Blend

1 Tsp. (5 mL) cornstarch
1/2 cup (118 mL) water
2 Tbsp. (30 mL) fresh lemon juice
1/2 cup (118 mL) frozen thawed unsweetened blueberries
1/2 cup (118 mL) sliced frozen thawed unsweetened strawberries
1/2 tsp. (2 mL) grated lemon peel
1/4 tsp. (1 mL) vanilla extract

French Toast

1/2 cup (118 mL) egg substitute
1 packet Pure Via Turbinado Raw Cane Sugar and Stevia Blend Cooking Spray
4 slices whole grain bread (each 1/4-inch thick)

DIRECTIONS

Sauce

1. Melt butter in small saucespan on medium heat.
2. Remove from heat and stir in Pure Via Turbinado Raw Cane Sugar and Stevia Blend and cornstarch.
3. Whisk in water and lemon juice.
4. Return to heat and bring to boil, whisking frequently. Boil and whisk 1 minute.
5. Stir  in blueberries, strawberries, lemon peel and vanilla; set aside.

French Toast

1. Combine egg substitute and Pure Via Turbinado Raw Cane Sugar and Stevia Blend.
2. Spray a medium skillet. Heat skillet on medium heat.
3. Dip sliced bread into egg substitute mixture.
4. Add to skillet and cook 1 to 2 minutes per side or until golden brown on both sides.
5. Top French Toast with  sauce and serve.

And voila:
